Lagundo & Surroundings: The town of Lagundo is located on the West border of Merano and is in
close proximity of this sunny thermal city. The little town is the ideal
starting point for wonderful hikes and walks in the surroundings, for
example along the "Waalwege", the ancient Roman irrigation ditches
which are so typical in this region. Also the small hamlet "Vellau
/ Velloi" above Lagundo is absolutely worth a visit. Furthermore you should not miss to savour the feudal atmosphere of the
Trattmansdorff Castle. If you observe the huge park and the natural terrace
around the water lilies pond, if you look at the superlative panorama
offered by the mountains surrounding Merano, or if you walk in the botanic
garden spreading at the feet of the Castle, you will easily understand
the reason why Empress Sissi of Austria was fascinated by this breathtaking
location. Nowadays the Castle hosts the Tourism Museum which the only
museum in the Alps devoted exclusively to the history of tourism by taking
the visitor on an exciting journey in time through over 200 years of the
history of tourism. |
